Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you use Sophia, we collect the following information:

  • Account information: Your name and email address from Google OAuth
  • Session data: Duration, topic, learner level, and interaction patterns
  • Exercise results: Your answers, scores, and progression data
  • Usage telemetry: Audio/text message counts, tool usage, and cost metrics
  • Transcripts: Text transcriptions of voice conversations during sessions

2. Audio Data

Audio from your microphone is streamed in real-time to Google Cloud's Gemini API for processing. We do not record or store raw audio data. Audio is processed in-memory and discarded after the session ends. Text transcriptions of conversations may be retained.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve the tutoring experience
  • To adapt difficulty and teaching style to your proficiency level
  • To track usage for billing and cost management
  • To detect and prevent platform abuse
  • To generate aggregated analytics (never individually identifiable)

4. Data Storage

Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, hosted in the United States (us-central1). Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We follow Google Cloud's security best practices for data protection.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Cloud Platform: Infrastructure, database, and AI services
  • Google Gemini API: AI-powered tutoring and voice interaction
  • Google OAuth: Authentication

These services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

6. Data Retention

Session telemetry and transcripts are retained for the duration of the beta program and up to 90 days after it ends. Account information is retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your data at any time.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Export your data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent and close your account

8. Children's Privacy

Sophia is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the email associated with your account.
